During the checking, the police personnel had asked a white Scorpio SUV bearing a Uttar Pradesh registration to stop but the driver of the vehicle did not stop at the checking point. The police then chased the Scorpio and when the driver failed to dodge the police he ran away from the spot leaving behind the vehicle. Police sources said that it is likely that the ammonium nitrate seized from the vehicle was meant to cause blasts in neaby Mahoba hills.
